This online exhibit depicts cultural portrayals of ethnic groups throughout the period of 1881, with the publication of Uncle Remus and his Legends of the Old Plantation by Joel Chandler Harris, to 2000, when we see accurate depictions of ethnic groups in books such as Fly, Eagle, Fly; Squanto's Journey; and CrazyHorse's Vision. This period encompasses the upheaval of the civil rights movement and globalization. This exhibit will explore the issues of multiculturalism,  cultural (in)sensitivity, and historical and cultural accuracy as well as how depictions of African Americans, Africans, Native Americans, and Asian Americans changed over time.
